We likkle but we Tallahwah. Team Jamaica Chess fielded a small contingent of only 13 players, and none in the U20 Absolute section at the 8th staging of the Junior CARIFTA Chess Championships, yet they waltzed away with top team honours over Trinidad & Tobago & Surinam. Jamaica Struck Gold in two official Categories U12 Absolute Jaden Shaw, and U16 Female Raehanna Brown. Silvers were won in U12 Female Zaina O’Connor and U20 female Ashanti Blackwood. Bronze medals went to U12 female Laila Griffiths, U16 Female Adani Clarke, and U16 Abs Darren McKennis. We also won medals in the un-official age groups, U10 Female Zaina O’Conner won silver, in U10 Abs Cameron Coe earned Bronze, U12 Fem Laila Griffiths mined Gold as did Jaden Shaw in U12 Abs. Raehanna Brown won Gold in U14 female, while Darren McKennis got Silver in U14 Abs. Adani Clarke picked up another Gold in U16 Female, while Nicholas Lyn gained a bronze in U16 Abs. Finally Ashanti Blackwood got the Gold in U18 female. Also playing well but missing the podium were Gabriella Watson, Aliyah Yankana and John & Amy Stephenson. NM Mikhail Solomon was Head of Delegation and Official Coach. There were 7 parents whom accompanied the delegation. This was Jamaica’s third team title but first overseas, having won the 2nd staging as host in 2013 and again the 6th as host in 2017. In this the Jamaica Chess Federation’s Golden Jubliee 50 years since our founding Feb 18th, 1969 this is a Grand birthday Gift. Congratulations!!
